Introduction

Since January 1st 2023, New Brunswick has 77 municipalities instead previously 104, and almost all 300 Local Service Districts were abolished. Roughly half of the current 77 municipalities are completely newly incorporated entities. Even the municipalities with the old names are with changed borders. Wikipedia lists categories - City, Town, Village, Regional Municipality, Rural Community and Rural District. There are also several First Nation Communities.

Current subdivisions

Since the 2023 Municipal Reform in New Brunswick, the new municipalities are almost all new, with several exceptions. Even those that kept the name, at least some of them, are changed in territory and/or in status. Many municipalities amalgamated all or parts of former Local Service Districts, as they have been completely dissolved since 01.01.2023. The remaining unincorporated territories are now Rural Districts, created on 01.01.2023, and are under administration of Regional Service Commissions.
