flagge
These standards are flags, more or less permanently fixed to a
staff, usually a square of a considerable size, typically symbolising
a unit of some sort, either military a military unit or a an society
or such. Also, poetical use.
Peter Hans van den Muijzenberg, 25 Oct 2007
An "ensyn" is more or less an "ensign", though the word is
rarely used. The difference would be the lack of central authority,
which forced towns to fly an own ensyn abroad, for lack of a
national ensign.
