Original version

SARP house flag

White pennent bordered with red. Two crossed blue anchors and red crescent, letters "USSR". Adopted in the 1920ths.
Victor Lomantsov, 14 Aug 2000

Where do we have the "SSSR" version from? Could it be that it was really written there "SARP" and "SSSR" is just what someone who did not know what was really written, put there as his guess…? Even highly believable if the source is western (i.e. was unable to read cyrillic), though the SU sources might have made the same error…

Later the crescent was removed. I saw this in magazines of the 1970ies. I think it really used until the 1990ies.

White pennant with red canton. Letters "SSSR" (USSR) in the canton. Blue hammer and sickle in the fly (in the 1920ths). (In photo of 1970ths there were letters "SZRP" instead of "SSSR".) It was adopted in the 1920ies.
Victor Lomantsov, 15 Aug 2000

Where do we have the "SSSR" version from? It may well be that the abbreviation was indeed SZRP aleways, and "SSSR" is just what someone who did not know what was really written, put there as his guess… Even highly believable if the source is western (i.e. was unable to read cyrillic), though the SU sources might have made the same error…

In 1926 soviet government adopted pennant for ships of joint-stock company "Lena - Goldfield Limited" (Lena - river in Siberia; "Goldfield Limited" - name in English with cyrillic letters). This pennant looks like 1/4 of Union Jack. Was it soviet-british or british company?
