It is perhaps not very well known fact, that majority of
Russian merchant navy during the 19th century was registered
in the grand-duchy of Finland, owned
and operated by Finns. These ships used Russian flags, but
among seafaring circles was known as Finnish rather than
Russians.

Ensign of "Russian Sea Union" - white-blue-red flag
with abbreviation "RMS" (Rossiyskiy Morskoy Soyuz). The
ensign was adopted
by Emperor on November, 8, 1910 (Decree No 34371).

It is a blue flag divided by a red saltire with one white capital in every
quarter: "H" (top), "Å" (hoist), "A" (fly) and "B" (bottom).
