Schermerhorn was a municipality in Noord-Holland, since 1970 part of the municipality of Schermer.
This was the birthplace of Dr. Schermerhorn, the first Prime Minister of the Netherlands after the Second World War. The village was also renowned for the "Pinksterbruid", the Pentecostal bride, who was carried around on a berry, while songs
were sung and some people collected money.
The flag was green with a black mole at 2/3 flag height.
This flag was adopted 3 Jul 1962 by municipal resolution. H. J. Soeteboom wrote in 1658 in "Saenlandtsche Arcadia", that those of Schermer-horn have put a little mole on their arms, which they also show all over the world on their wimpels and banners.

The coat of arms was granted 22 Oct 1817. It was told that the Schermerhorners were quarreling with the Oosthuizenaars. Lord Menting, the lord of the castle, which later was called the Heer Menteniswerf, admonished them to insist on their side of the story, and to burrow gradually in order to achieve good conditions. Since then they were named the "wroeters", burrowers, and of course they put a burrowing mole on their arms. At present their nickname is "mollen".
