As typical with the Yucatán peninsula, really all municipal symbols represent Maya culture/history in some way, especially through the use of a figure, pyramid,
or perhaps the Tree of Life. Rivers, cattle-raising, agriculture (with corn and wheat), and a local church are
also represented often.
* - Campeche Municipality inspired the coat of arms of the state; therefore, its own flag is technically that of the state (though a municipal standard is used as well).
** - There is a flag for each municipality at the Ciudad del Carmen convention center, though none have been adopted as a municipal flag by their respective councils.
