Kyokuyo Hogei K.K. was formed 1937 with the
translation being the Polar Seas Whaling Ltd. It changed name 1971 to K.K.
Kyokuyo, withdrawing from whaling in 1976 and from deep sea trawling in 1993
according to one source but Lloyds 2000 still showed it owning some
fishing vessels.

The flag is flown by "Japan's fourth largest fisheries company" as stated in an on-line article, dated 31 May of this year.
It is made clear that "fishing" included whaling until very recently. And here is the company website sporting the very flag:
"Kyokuyo [Co., Ltd, jm ] was founded in 1937.Together with the transition of the times, Kyokuyo has evolved from a company focused on fishing to our current position as a food company concentrating on commerce in marine products and food processing" in the words of Mr Fukui, President.
Established at Tokyo, the firm operates a cold storage ship and four fishing vessels. We learn that the first factory ship began business in 1954 and that the following decades brought expansion thanks to the production of canned and frozen marine products; at the present there are joint ventures with Thailand and China.
Subsidiaries active in shipping are the already familiar Kyokuyo Shipping (est. 1986; food transportation not limited to fishery products), Kyokuyo Suisan (est. 1997; fishing overseas), and Kyokuyo Shipping Panama (est. 2004; shipowning and management).
And at first sight there seems to be no
connection with the shipyard bearing the same name…

Kyoritsu Kisen K.K. appears to have been a post
World War 2 company which ceased in the later 1960s.
