Dirlewang Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a gate Argent with port Or with entrance wicket of the same at dexter, flanked by two embattled towers Argent with socles of Argent and Azure.
Meaning:
Dirlewang was mentioned as a market town since 1467. The first town seal was in use since 1725 on use of the grant of town arms. A reason probably is that the Bavarian Elector regained the Lordship of Mindelheim after the end of the War of the Spanish Succession. The seal already displayed the current pattern with a circumscription "Grenzmarkt" (= market town on the border), which stressed the town as an advanced post of Bayern in Central Swabia. The Bavarian tinctures of the socles were first mentioned in 1835. The wicket (German: Türle) is a punning element, as "Dirle" is considered to be derived from "Türle" (= little door).
