    Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) shield is a green, cut stem of an oak tree, still having leaves and 18 roots. The stem is flanked by two blue fish on the dexter side and a blue eagle's wing on the sinister side.
    Meaning:
The number of roots is symbolizing the municipalities, today reduced to 16, those are: Bargstedt, Bokel, Borgdorf-Seedorf, Brammer, Dätgen, Eisendorf, Ellerdorf, Emkendorf, Gnutz, Groß Vollstedt, Krogaspe, Langwedel, Oldenhütten, Schülp bei Nortorf, Timmaspe and Warder. The fish are stressing the economic importance of fish breeding. The wing is taken from the arms of the Lüttwitz-Heinrich family, since 1926 owners of Emkendorf Manor. Even today Emkendorf is a cultural attraction. It bloomed under the ownership of Julia and Fritz Reventlow. Inspired by the couple the Emkendorf Circle came to being, which had had a great influence on the development of the Elbe duchies around 1800. The city of Nortorf and Nortorf-Land Subcounty merged on 1 January 2007. The new subcounty was renamed Nortorfer Land and overtook the symbols of the former subcounty of Nortorf-Land.
