Meaning:
Kandern and the County of Sausenberg had been possessions of the Margraves of Baden-Hachberg. The capital had been acquired by the Margraves of Baden-Durlach in 1535 and finally in 1573. A market of economic importance existed since the 16th century, but the city rights were gained in 1810. They got lost between 1935 and 1951. The tankard (German: Kanne) had been a symbol on local boundary trees. Since 1810 it was displayed also in local seals and arms. The shape of the tankard was often changed due to the prevailing taste. It is a canting element.
