Shield O, a warrior in armour Argent with tunic Gules, crosses Gules on Argent upon his breast, on his shield, held by his right hand, and on a pennant of a lance Gules, held by his left hand, at sinister an impending fish haurient Azure.
Meaning:
The warrior is St. George, patron saint of the namesake local abbey, recognisable by the three St. George's crosses. A town seal with prints since 1403 already displayed the saint, however accompanied by two fish. The pattern remained basically the same, in the 16th century without pennant with a wyvern instead. The number of fish was changed various times, sometimes one and sometimes two. The fish are symbolising the location on the shores of the Ammersee, a local lake. The abbey mentioned above was founded by the Counts of Andechs, who donated the town to the abbey in 1140.
