Shield Or semy of heartlets Gules, a lion rampant Azure armed and tongued Gules and holding a horn Argent by his forepaws.
Meaning:
The horn is a canting symbol and has been used by the city of Gifhorn since the 14th century. The lion and the hearts are taken from the arms of the Princess of Lüneburg from the Welfen kin and are used by them since the 13th century, as the area belonged to them for many centuries.

The flag was approved on 15 March 1989. The arms were approved on 29 August 1929.
