The sheet is divided into alternating red and yellow triangles. Shifted to the bottom is a red wheel with eight spokes upon a yellow disc.

Meaning:
The wheel is taken from the municipal coat of arms, where it has however no rim. Markdorf gained city rights around 1250, granted by the Lords of Markdorf. The city also adopted the arms of the family, and the arms appeared already on the seal of the city from 1350, the existence of prints is proven since 1414. Later images all showed the same symbol, the number of blades, however, has changed often during the centuries. The colours are known since the 17th century.
