Coat of Arms

Shield barry of ten of Argent and Gules, charged with a stag passant Sable tongued Gules.
Meaning:
Ranstadt had been a dominion of the Counts of Stolberg-Wernigerode in the 17th century. A stag whad been the heraldic animal of the counts. The stag also appeared in a guilds' seal from the 17th century in an inescutcheon, surrounded by the inescutcheons of the six guilds. In the 18th century the stag appears in a court seal (in an inescutcheon ?) in a quartered shield with quarters 1 and 4 displaying the arms of the Lords of Eppstein (= Argent three chevrons Gules) and with quarters 2 and 3 displaying the arms of the Counts of Münzenberg (= per fess Gules over Or). Otto Hupp fixed the background colours as Or, while the Hesse Armourial of Municipal Arms (Hessisches Ortswappenbuch) fixed it a Argent. Klemens Stadler followed the version of Hupp. The barry shield of the current arms is referring to the Counts of Hesse and the Counts of Isenburg, who had been local rulers in the incorporated villages of the nowadays municipality.
The current arms were approved on 12 June 1982 by Minister of Interior of Hesse. The arms were designed by Heinz Ritt.
