Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided into gold (= yellow) over silver (= white) by a blue fess wavy. Above is a black, double-headed eagle, armed and tongued red. The field below is divided by two red fesses.
Meaning:
The fess wavy is symbolizing the little Wetter river, the name giver of the region. The Imperial Eagle is representing the Imperial Country (Reichsland) of Wetterau, especially the imperial city and castle of Friedberg, erected by the Staufen kin. He is also representing the former Friedberg County. The red fesses are taken from the arms of the Counts of Isenburg-Büdingen, who ruled the Eastern part of the nowadays county, more or less the former Büdingen County. The counties of Friedberg and Büüdingen merged on 1 August 1972.

Flag and banner were approved on 24 August 1981. The coat of arms was approved on 2 July 1975.
