Schernfeld Coat of Arms

Shield Gules an ammonite Argent; chief parted per pale, at dexter Argent parted by a centred cross Gules, at sinister Azure an arrow Argent and a sword flambant Argent in saltire.
Meaning:
The ammonite is symbolising the location on the heights of the Eichstätt Jura and the economic importance of its stone quarries for centuries. In the lime stone the petrifications more than 600 kinds of animals had been discovered. The museum in Hartfeld displays many ammonites from the quarries. The chief is alluding to local patron saints. The red cross is the attribute of St. George, patron saint of Schernfeld proper. The arrow is an attribute of St. Stephen, patron saint of Sappenfeld, and St. Giles, patron saint of Schönfeld. The sword is an attribute of St. Michael, patron saint of Rupertsbuch, parish of the former municipality of Workerszell. The patron saints are also a representation of the former independent municipalities. The tinctures red and white are those of the Bishopric of Eichstätt, local ruler until 1803. The tinctures blue and white are those of Rebdorf Abbey, a former important manorial lord.
