Meaning:
In 1970 the city of Brunsbüttelkoog merged with the municipalities of Brunsbüttel and Westerbüttel and the municipalities of Brunsbüttel Parish: Mühlenstraßen, Osterbelmhusen, Ostermoor und Westerbelmhusen. The new city of Brunsbüttel overtook flag and arms of the preceding entity of Brunsbüttelkoog. The anchor is symbolising shipping and industries. The spade is symbolising dyking and agriculture in the former parish. A bend sinister wavy from the arms, symbolising the Kiel Canal, is omitted in the flag.
