Shield Azure, two harvester's hooks Or in saltire, chief Or, charged with an attire Sable in fess.
Meaning:
The first town seal from around 1520 only displayed the crossed hooks. The market town became a dominion of Württemberg in 1350. The attire appeared first in seals from the 17th century, not being on a chief. Arms, e.g. displayed by Siebmacher (1605) displayed the hooks Argent, "having the colour of iron", i.e. probably a shade of grey. The hooks (German: Heuhaken) either allude to the city's name or to the Hacken kin of Wöllstein, who had the local fiefdom until 1345.
