On 1 January 2018 the districts of Boudry, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Le Locle, Neuchâtel, Val-de-Ruz and Val-de-Travers were abolished (map of former districts). The already existing four Regions remained and are now the only subdivisions between the communal and the cantonal level.
