Overview

The Flag - Attributes and Semiology: Cangrejo (Crab) Island is located at the entrance of Orinoco River and is a part of Delta Amacuro State on the Orient of Venezuela. Its flag consists of a field with extra-official an approximate ratio 1:2 or two squares of length divided on two horizontal stripes: blue (superior) and green (inferior) completing the design a white triangle near the hoist. The white triangle alludes to the Purity of the Warao Ethnic Group: predominant inhabitants of the island. The blue stripe represent the sky and the green one remembers the magnificent vegetation of the region.
Historical Synthesis: It was created by Mr. Peter Ponce, inhabitant of Cangrejo Island.

The coat of arms meaning: Inside is the scene from our coastal scenery composed of the Orinoco River, on the left a janoko (house built on stilts) where our local Warao Indians live. On the right is the Ojidu (Moriche palm tree), very abundant on this island. The two macaw birds are also in abundance in the island, the sun-down at the end of the Orinoco River and the entrance to the Atlantic Ocean. The coat of arms was designed by Peter Ponce and painted by Mr Paez Rodriguez, inhabitant of Cangrejo Island.
