There's a story about a young lady who lost her life in the 1930s in an
accident on a Dallas Lake. Ever since, however, sometimes when the weather is
bad, a lonely car driver in the evening may see a little girl standing at the
edge of the road round the lake. Her clothes are clearly wet, and if offered,
she'll get in the back and ask the driver to please drive her to her parents'
house. Of course, the driver does so, and when they arrive ... nothing. So, the
driver walks around the car to open the door for her, only to find her gone. All
that is left, is the wet spot where she was sitting.
That Dallas lake is
called "White Rock Lake". It's a reservoir lake to gather water for the Dallas
area. Apart from that, it's also the home water for the Corinthian Sailing Club
of Dallas, founded in 1939. The club has had its ups and down, most notably when
the water did the same. But 80 years on, apart from times when the lake dried
up, the club is still sailing.
The club has a burgee, white before blue
divided in two over a bend sinister, with centred on the white a red
five-pointed star, one point up.
