"American Montessori Academy", based at Livonia, Michigan, is a tuition-free public school for kindergarten through sixth grades. There are over 5,000 Montessori schools today in the USA, following the Montessori method set up by
the Italian educator Maria Montessori (1870-1952) (more details on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montessori_method). However, there is no
Montessori trademark and the "American Montessori Academy" is not a member of "Association Montessori Internationale" founded in 1929 by M. Montessori to maintain the integrity of her work (see www.montessori-ami.org).
On 10 May 2009, "The Observer & Eccentric Mirror Hometown" reported the dedication of the new flag pole in front of the "American Montessori Academy", performed on 27 April 2009 in the presence of the Mayor of Livonia. The US flag and the school logo flag were hoisted and retired later on in the day, as shown on a colour photo.

The school logo is comet-shaped, the head of the comet being a big blue star surrounded by a galaxy of smaller stars, six red and thirteen blue, exhibiting a range of sizes. The tail of the comet is made of six rays, in turn red and blue. The larger, blue rays are charged with the white lettering "AMERICAN", "MONTESSORI" and "ACADEMY" respectively. The two upper blue tails are separated by a galaxy of stars, a big blue, three smaller blue and four red. The two lower blue tails are separated by a galaxy of stars, a big blue, three smaller blue and three red.
