The town of Crozet is in western Albemarle County, approximately 12 miles west of the city of Charlottesville along I-64. The town was originally named Wayland's Crossing, but was renamed in 1875 at the insistence of the C&O Railroad in favor of Colonel Claudius Crozet, a French-born engineer who directed construction of the Blue Ridge Tunnel
through which the railroad crossed the Blue Ridge Mountains west of Charlottesville.
According to the town newspaper's website (www.crozetgazette.com), the town flag was adopted after 1996, when the Crozet Community Association began prompting the Crozet coat of arms to represent the town. The flag is square in shape, blazoned as "azure, on a bend argent three roses gules, barbed and seeded proper." Photographs of the flag in use can be seen at www.crozetgazette.com/the-crozet-flag.
