Martı (website) originates in a reefer and coaster business established in 1980, restructured in 1985 to focus on deep-sea shipping. At its prime, the company represented 10% of the entire Turkish shipping fleet.
Martı has been presided since the origin by its founder, Erol Yucel, also Chairman of the Turkish Maritime Assembly (2009-2018) and President of the Turkish Chamber of Shipping (1997-2009).

The house flag of Martı is blue with a white zig-zag forming the letter "M".
