Meaning:
The Portuguese word "pinho" means "pine" in both acceptions — both the tree (although its pleonastic derivative "pinheiro", akin to English "pine tree", is more common) and also its timber; the arms are therefore partly canting. The Paschal Lamb is an attribute of St. John the Baptist.
