It is a typical Portuguese municipal flag with the coat of arms centred on a field gyronny of eight of blue and red.

Shield Argent a mound Sable issuant from the base charged with a fess wavy Azure fimbriated Argent with annexed pale of the same and sprouting a fountain Azure between four towers Gules with port and windows Or.
Mural crown Argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters
"MUNICIPIO DE SÃO PEDRO DO SUL" (see left flag image at top)
or "S. PEDRO DO SUL" (see central flag image at top)
or "MUNICIPIO DE SÃO PEDRO DO SUL" (see right flag image at top) with colours in wrong order
The former arms were the same but with a mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters
"VILA DE S.PEDRO DO SUL" (see left flag image above)
or "VILA DE SÃO PEDRO DO SUL" (see central flag image above)
or "VILA DE S.PEDRO DO SUL" (see right flag image above)
Meaning:
"São Pedro do Sul" means here "St. Peter of South","South" ("Sul") being a nearby river.
The arms show no connection with St. Peter and include symbolism about the local river fork (tributary Sul meeting Vouga river), local hot mineral spa tourism activity ,
and local defensive fortifications.

province of Beira Alta; would-be 1999 region Beira; NUT II Centro; NUT III Dão-Lafões.
