In the undulating
battle between the sea (the azure planes) and the land (the green planes),
sometimes one side prevailed, sometimes the other. A portion of Oosterleek still
lies in the Markermeer lake. In the past, the sea brought prosperity (symbolized
by the fish) but also brought death and destruction (symbolized by a shell from
the shell cemetery). All in all, this flag does justice to Oosterleek's
centuries-old history.
