4991 inhabitants, 2529 hectares, c. 10 km south of Alkmaar. "Aker"
= acorn, hence the canting flag, and "sloot" = ditch; this municipality
has always been in a wet environment, and still is, its heart being the
Alkmaardermeer (lake). It was partly destroyed by Spanish soldiers in October
1573.
The flag was adopted 2 Feb 1960, a Banner of Arms. The Coat of Arms was
already used for "wimpelen" (banners) in 1658.
