The coat of arms of Topia was adopted in the spring of 1987, being designed by Felipe "El Puma" Salas Moreno under Municipal President Humberto Vázquez Quiñonez. A commission was appointed by the State Government to select a coat of arms for Topia. Surrounding the shield is a ribbon reading the year 1563, when the city of Durango was founded. At the top is a small plane, a common way of arriving here. The inner section of the shield depicts an Indian carrying his child (left), the Hill of the Cross (lower-left), a palm tree (?) to the right, and a minecart filled with gold reading TOPIA DURANGO at the bottom. These surround a scene contained with a circle, that contains an image of the valley with bundles of wheat, two sets of trees, a split log, house, and tunnel to the mines. In the distance is the Hill of the Cross.
