The coat of arms of Tlahualilo was designed by Municipal Chronicler Arturo Sandoval Ceniceros in 1972, being inspired by the coats of arms of Durango and Vizcaya (Spain). The shield is placed over parchment, with leaves to its sides, at the bottom a ribbon reading "TLAHUALILAC", the original version of the city's name in Nahuatl. A crown at the top for royalty. In the border of the shield are the words "TIERRA DE HOMBRES DE FE Y DE TRABAJO" [Land of Men of Faith and Work]; to the lower-right the dates 1892 and 1972, remembering the 80th anniversary of the city when a construction named "Casa Grande" was built. In the inner section, a tree with two wolves passing through remembers the state, at its foot a watermelon and watermelon slice, along with a split melon and three cotton buds as part of its principal agricultural products. To the right. the sun setting behind the San Juan Bautista mountains with a lagoon (Laguna del Caimán) to the front. To the left, more mountains and the ploughed valley; the background remembers the name, meaning "Lagoon with water and fertile land". The upper-right depicts a map of the municipality.
