They have unusal Western style flag: three horizontal stripes from top green,
yellow and brown. The emblem in white and black is placed in canton, white K (in
Latin script) in yellow stripe and white kanji Kariwa village 刈羽村.

The emblem features a black upright tall isosceles triangle appearing to be
in front of a slightly smaller downward pointing triangle, both containing
white lines in a pattern which is possibly intended to reflect the name
"kariwa" in Kanji.
According to the ordinance, a village flag was adopted for the uplifting
of the village consciousness, displaying mutual friendship and as a sign
of village unity. Agencies and organisations located in Kariwa may may
substitute their badge for the K in the centre stripe, and use their name
rather than the village name in the bottom stripe. The village flag may
also be used for all sorts of purposes. The regulations applied from 10
April, and is in force from the day of proclamation (16 April).
