Description

Yavne is situated in the shore plain, 8 km NW to Rehovot and south to Tel Aviv on road 40. Named after the ancient city of Yavne or Yavne'el (Joshua 15:1–11 [?]). Est. 1949. Pop. 30'000. In my visit there was only the national flag on the city hall.
The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot), 'Publications Gazette' section (Yalkut HaPirsumim), YP 3831, 3 January 1991, replacing the previous one of the Local Council Yavne (YP 854, 15 June 1961).

The desk flag is white with emblem. Mr Ezra Bar, City Purchasing Manager wrote me on 24 October 2001 (my translation):

The emblem tells Yavne's story in the perspective of time:
The upper part symbolizes its past, the "Yavne and its wise people" era.
The central part symbolizes the wheels of work and industry.
The bottom part symbolizes the emphasis in the education area (shape of open book).
The motto powers the present, aims to the future and emphasises the past.

The emblem colours are orange and blue but are sometimes reversed.

Yavne was established in 1949 and named after the ancient town of Yavne, the center for the Jewish cultural life after the ruin of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. For about 60 years Yavne was the Jewish center until the Jewish rebellion of 132.
During the Crusader era it was a fortified city named Ibblin. More information in English at www.geocities.com [retrieved].
Photos of a light blue flag are at www.yavnecity.co.il [not archived in 2005], and I also observe light blue flags while visiting the ciry. It seems that this color adopted as the city color.
