Presentation of Stara Gradiška

The municipality of Stara Gradiška (1,717 inhabitants, 542 in the village of Stara Gradiška) is located some 60 km west of Slavonski Brod and some 20 km west of Nova Gradiška.
Since ancient times, the place has been an important crossing point of river Sava; it is today the site of the border crossing towards Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Austro-Hungarian military barracks were transformed into a prison in the 1920s, which served as a concentration camp during the Second World War, as part of the infamous Jasenovac complex. After the Second World War, the camp was the prison where political opponents to the regime were being held, eventually disbanded in 1991 and being transformed into a museum.
During the Serb occupation in the 1990s, the town was an important logistic place, the prison being again used for POWs, eventually liberated in 1995. Local industry includes wood, metal processing and cattle breeding, mostly for milk.

The symbols of Stara Gradiška are described in the Municipal Statutes Statut općine Stara Gradiška, adopted on 22 September 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 13 October 2009 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, No. 14 (text).

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure a fish naiaint or above a 'hunting sentry tower' argent issuant from the base".
The "hunting sentry tower" is a wooden structure where hunters wait for game (usually boars and stags). It is known in German as Hochsitz, Jagdsitz or Hochstand.
