The municipality of Podgorač (2,877 inhabitants in 2011, 866 in the village of Podgorač) is located about 40 km south-west of Osijek. The ethnic composition is just under 80% Croats and a bit over 17% Serbs.
Until 1997 Podograc was part of the Požega-Slavonia County.

The symbols of Podgorač are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Podgorač, adopted on 24 January 2005 by the Municipality Assembly and published in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Podgorač, No. 1. This was amended by Decision Odluka o izmjenama i dopnama Odlukea o grbu i zastavi Općine Podgorač, adopted on 14 September 2009 and published on 15 September 2009 in Službeni glasnik Općine Podgorač, No. 6.
The symbols are described in Article 8 of the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Podgorač, adopted on 2 July 2009 and published on 3 July 2009 in Službeni glasnik Općine Podgorač, No. 4.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka, and approved by the Ministry of Administration / Central State Office for Administration before 2006.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure a garb or and on a border sable eighteen lozenges or".
The Decision explains that the garb means the agricultural base of the region while the bordure is taken from the coat of arms of the Pejačević family, who owned Podgorač among their other possesions.
Decision Rješ:enje o osnivanju Komisije za nazive ulica i trgova na području Općine Podgorač, te sadržaj i oblik grba Općine Podgorač set up in 1993 a commission that had among its task to determine the "contents and shape of the coat of arms".

The ceremonial flag, not mentioned in the Decision but once shown on the municipal website, is a blue gonfalon ending triangularly with a golden fringe. In the middle is the yellow bordered coat of arms topped with the name of the municipality and with two bunches of ears below it.
