L’Union nationale du sport scolaire (UNSS - National School Sports
Union) is the French federation for secondary school sports. A
multi-sport organization, it is open to all students registered with
the sports associations (AS) of middle and high schools. Activities
are led by physical education teachers during time slots scheduled by
each school, with matches and competitions taking place almost
exclusively on Wednesday afternoons.
The UNSS brings together 1,040,000 registered students, 9,500 school
sports associations, and 35,000 physical education teachers. It
operates nationwide through its 130 decentralized offices (UNSS
departmental and regional directorates).
