Description

The flag of Baiona shows four blue and red triangles, the result of a two-diagonal crossing: blue triangles are up and down, while red ones are left and right. In public buildings and protocol events the flag must present the coat of arms in the middle.

During 19th century the use of the flag decayed. Notwithstanding, in May 1981 a council agreement decided that the flag should flutter at the town hall between the Spanish and the Galician flags: the former to its left and the later to its right. Until that moment, the last time the flag had been exhibit was September 28, 1927, during His and Her Highnesses King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain's visit to the village.

The most ancient document to prove the existence of the flag is a letter from King Philip II of Spain kept in the local Public Record Office. It is dated in Madrid, 1591 and addressed to the Marquis of Cerralbo, general-captain of Galicia in that time.
