The municipality of El Fresno (519 inhabitants in 2006; 1,263 ha; 1,075 m a.s.l.; municipal website) is located 9 km southsouthwest of Ávila. The population of the village remained stable all over the 20th century.
Traditional cattle-breeding is recalled by the "Las Toras" festival, celebrated on 16-17 January, for St. Anthony's Day, during which the children dress as bulls (toros).

The flag and arms of El Fresno are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 4 December 2002 by the Municipal Council, signed on 20 January 2003 by the Mayor, and published on 4 February 2003 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 23, p. 1,920 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag in proportions 2:3, made of three horizontal stripes in respective proportions 3/5, 1/5 and 1/5, red with a white ash, white and green, respectively.
Coat of arms: Argent an ash [fresno] vert, chapé gules dexter a garb of stalks or sinister an ewe's head argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
