The parish of Cojimíes, located in Pedernales canton (Manabí province), was
established by Agreement No. 621 of 14 December 1911; its official inauguration
was postponed until 28 March 1912 because of the Guayaquil Revolution.

The flag of Cojimíes is horizontally divided blue-red-green with a yellow sun
skewed to the hoist. Blue represents the ocean, the estuary, and the rivers that
water the parish territory, as well as the sky. Red represents life generated by
the air and the sea. Green represents the permanent fertility of the soil.
