Description

The IDAC flag can be seen in several photographs online, including on the agency's website. The flag shows the IDAC logo centered on a white field. The logo incorporates concentric triangles of red, white, and blue - the national colors - pointing toward the upper fly. Extending out horizontally from the triangles are black capital letters spelling out the agency's acronym, with a light blue globe above the "I." The name of the agency is spelled out in smaller capital letters beneath the acronym.

About the Institute

The Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil (IDAC, Dominican Civil Aviation Institute) "regulates, certifies, monitors, and provides air navigation services and promotes sustainable development of civil aviation, overseeing compliance with national and international standards and managing safety in aviation activity," according to the organization's website. IDAC began its history in January 1949 with the creation of the Bureau of Aviation as part of the Ministry of State for War and Navy. The Bureau of Aviation was redesignated the General Directorate of Aviation under the Ministry of State for War, Navy, and Aviation in April 1955. In November 1969, Law No. 505 was enacted, specifying the powers of the Civil Aeronautics Board under the General Directorate of Aviation, and specifying that the Directorate fell directly under the auspices of the Presidency.
