    Introduction of Svitzer

The company was formed 1833 changing name 1986 from A/S Em. Z. Svitzer´s Bjergnings-Enterprise and then to A/S Em. Z. Svitzer. The name was changed to Svitzer Wijsmuller A/S in 1986 but logically it dates from the acquisition of Wijsmuller by Svitzer on 31 May 2001. The Maltese Cross was replaced following the 4/2007 identity rebranding, only as funnel mark, by a four bladed propeller in order to allow "SVITZER" to become the known identity (www.svitzer.com 1/7/2007), concluded the flag at least until 2008.

The company is based in Brøndby a Southwestern suburb of København. It is the Scandinavian branch of the Svitzer-Wijsmuller group, founded in August 2001 by the merging of Svitzer (Denmark) and Wijsmuller Bros (Baarn, The Netherlands). The group is itself part of the A.P. Møller (Maersk) group. It operates today the most powerful tug fleet in the world. Svitzer was founded in 1833 and owns today the towage and salvage companies Roda Bolaget (Sweden) and Esvagt A/S (Denmark). Wijsmuller was founded in 1906 as Wijsmuller Bureau.
