It is a blue (light) - yellow vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is slightly shifted to the top and nearly touching both vertical edges of the banner.

Backnang Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per pale into silver (= white) and black. The dexter side displays three black antlers ordered paly. The sinister side displays a light blue imperial globe with golden (= yellow) metal fittings and topped by a cross patty of the same colour.
Meaning:
The oldest seal of the city, prints exist since 1312 displayed an eagle, probably of the Zähringen kin. In 1324 the town became part of Württemberg and soon thereafter the three attires appeared. At first the antlers were in the proper colours of Württemberg (black on gold; 1535), but in the late 16th or 17th century the colours were changed. The shield was divided per pale into silver and black with the antles in counterchanged colours. This was probably done to avoid confusion with the arms of Württemberg. The imperial globe, which appeared on a few seals since the 16th century, is probably taken from the arms of the St. Pancras monastery in the city and became later on a local symbol.

The current coat of arms was fixed in 1903.
