Shield quartered of Argent-Sable-Gules-Argent, chief Gules a crozier issuant from sinister flanch in fess under a pallet Argent.
Meaning:
Town and district (German: Amt) of Pleinfeld were acquired by the Bishopric of Eichstätt in 1302, other fiefdoms of the former rulers, the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach were one by one also acquired by the bishopric until 1508. On request of Bishop Wilhelm of Reichenau the rights of a market town were confirmed in 1486 by Emperor Friedrich III, proven by a number of year on the oldest town seal. The crozier is alluding to the bishopric, the quartered shield was considered to allude to the Zollern kin as former rulers. The arms changed in details. Otto Hupp (1925) painted a golden crozier. The quartered shield was also depicted as silver and red or as silver and blue, the Bavarian colours after 1819, when the crozier was omitted. In 1836 the crozier was re-established. The pallet Argent was added probably after 1984, when the document of approval was found, and is perhaps a mere 3D-element. Then also the tinctures of the quartered shield were changed according to the document.
