Description of banner:
It is a green - white - green vertical triband with ratio 1:8:1. The coat of arms is shifted to the top within the white stripe.

Description of coat of arms:
The silver (=white) base is divided by three green fesses wavy. Above in a red field is a plain silver (=white) inescutcheon superimposed by a rudimentary golden (=yellow) escarbuncle and a horizontal staff of the same colour having a fleur de lis at either end.
Meaning:
According to source the image is known from seals of the market town since 1500, the right to bear this image had been probably gained earlier by duke Adolf VI of Kleve in 1430. The demi escarbuncle and the staff are a remarkable modification taken from the arms of the kin of Kleve. The waves are symbolizing a creek and in this case they are canting (beck = Bach = creek).

Banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Düsseldorf on 21 September 1977, it is the coat of arms of the former municipality, approved by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia in 1968.
