Saarlouis City Coat of Arms

French shield Argent, a radiant sun Or, accompanied at dexter by an embowed cloud Argent, chief Azure charged with three fleur-de-lis Or.
Meaning:
The city developed between 1680 and 1686, quasi as an appendix of the French fortress. The complete arms are crested by a mural crown with two grain ears, all Or, and in base surrounded by two wreaths of laurel Vert with 20 red berries in total, and a scroll with the motto "DISSIPAT ATQUE FOVET" (English: "He dissipates and heats"). The arms are based on the first local seal from 1683. Though the arms are not considered to be a moment of heraldic glory, they survived nearly all political changes. The arms changed in details as colour of the cloud (of Azure and Argent) and sun, which sometimes is depicted with face, sometimes with different shape and number of rays.
