In a blue shield is a golden (= yellow), rampant, double-queued lion, armed and tongued red. He holds a silver halberd with a red, embowed shaft between his forepaws. Please note that all elements on the flag are simply yellow.
Meaning:
Meßkirch was already mentioned as a city in 1261 and belonged to the Waldburg kin. The oldest known seal from the late 13th century displays the three lions passant guardant (leopards) of the family arms. In 1354 the Barons of Zimmern, since 1358 Counts of Zimmern, acquired the city, and the seals now displayed the arms of the Zimmern kin, a lion holding an axe. Although the family died out in 1594, the city continued to use the arms. The pattern in the present arms is based on the seal from 1632.
