It is a blue - yellow vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is shifted to the top.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per bend sinister into blue over silver (= white). Above is a golden (= yellow) demi-lion issuant, armed and tongued red, accompanied by golden (= yellow) billets. Below is a red wheel having six spokes.
Meaning:
The arms are based upon those of the former Rheingau County. But the golden bunch of grapes there had been replaced by the lion of Nassau, here differentiated to a demi-lion. The upper field is also representing the former Untertaunus County. The wheel is representing the Bishopric of Mainz. The bishops had been rulers in the Rheingau since the 9th century for more than 400 years.

Flag and banner were approved on 25 August 1981. The coat of arms was approved on 22 January 1981.

Description of flag:
It was a red over white horizontal bicolour.
In 1977 the county merged with Rheingau County forming the new Rheingau-Taunus County.
