Viechtach Coat of Arms

Shield Or a strongly eradicated fir Vert trunked Maron.
Meaning:
Viechtach gained city rights in 1953. The arms are canting. Though granted in 1437, images of the pattern are not known before 1514 on a seal, where the fir had been displayed in a Spanish shield. The blazon says expressis verbis that the fir has strong roots. In Hofkleiderbuch (also known as: "Book of Attire of the Court of Duke William IV and Albert V of Bayern 1508 - 1551", a green eradicated fir is placed onto a red shield. Similar versions can be seen on paintings from the 16th century and town seals from the 17th and 18th century. Johann Balthasar Wening (1721) had been the first, who put the fir onto a green base. In order to distinguish the arms from those of Oberviechtach, in the 19th century a lozengy chief of white and blue was added. Otto Hupp (1925) added golden fir cones. The trunk always had been green. During the 20th century parts of the fir were sometimes covered with snow. On behalf of the city in 2000 the arms were redesigned and show the simplified current pattern since then.

The banner probably is in use without approval, at least since 1965. The arms were granted on 20 May 1437 by Duke Ernst of Bayern-München.
