Shield Gules and embattled wall Argent masoned sable, topped by three embattled towers Argent with cone roofs Azure topped by balls Or, on a triangular gate Azure with gable Argent a bishop's head Argent with mitre of the same.
Meaning:
The city seal with prints since 1396 was used during nearly 500 years. It displayed towers and walls of the city's fortification. The bishop probably is St. Kilian, patron saint of the Bishopric of Würzburg, to which the city historically belonged. The bishop is also a canting element, as the name of the city means "home of the bishop". The tinctures are based on armourials from the 16th century. Inbetween a sword and a crozier had been added in order to symbolise the sovereignty of the bishopric over the city.
