Shield parted per fess, above Argent a panther rampant issuant Gules, beneath lozengy of Argent and Azure.
Meaning:
The pattern is known from the first city seal with prints since 1374. The seal was probably granted together with the city rights by King Ludwig the Bavarian. The panther is a differentiation of the arms of the Palatine Counts, belonging to the Spanheim kin of Kraiburg and Ortenburg, who had been counts in Rottal since the 12th century. The lozenges are alluding to the Dukes of Bayern-Landshut, their successors. Differentiation of the panther and the unusual shape of the lozenges are interpreted as a distinguishing mark in comparison with similar arms.
