The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over white horizontal bicolour with centred arms.
A ,probably plain, bicolour was approved by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony in 1956.

Description of coat of arms:
Shield Azure, a swan passant Argent.
Meaning:
The arms are canting, as the municipality's name means "meadow of swans". The arms are based on the family arms of the Lower Saxonian Schwanewede kin.
The coat of arms was approved by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony in 1950.
